Ardha Chandrasana

Ardha (adj.) = Half
Chandra (n.) = Moon
Asana (n.) = Pose



Ardha Chandrasana

 


I am still a novice in this Asana, though the picture was shot in Mar, 2008. Hence I would group it with the "incorrect Asana" tag.

Critique
1) the neck is still not flexible enough to have the chin aligned with the hand. ( I am able to do the Parshva Konasana with the chin is alinged with the arm now)

2) The knee is still not facing forward, it's facing downward.

3) the raised leg is still not in one straight line with the trunk of the body.

Well, The Asana suggested largely could depend on the level of fitness of the person who's going to perform them.

For prevention: People such as I (since I saw my dad suffer from it, and I deduced that I am the next if I don't practice them).

Following are the Asanas that I practice for prevention:
1) Ardha-matsyendrasana

2) Greevasana / Viparita Dandasana


3) Kavandhasana

4) Janu Sirasana/ Janu Seershasana
5) Ardha Chakrasana


6) Bhujangasana

7) Dhanurasana

11) Matsyasana

12) Vatayanasana

13) Ushtrasana

15) Supta Vajrasana

16) Pavanmuktasana


When I recommend Asanans, Julia, I always cite the Gita's Karmayoga - Swalpamasya dharmasya Trayate Mahato Bhayat - even a little bit of dharma rescues from big fears. For people already suffering from Sciatica pain, they may not be in their best of fitness. But even approaching those Asanans cited above will benefit.
