Hello Durgashankar,

My wife has hypothyroidism. We were looking for the right asanas for her. Sarvangasana is one that is mentioned quite often. We got contradicting views about Sarvangasana's effect on thyroid.

Wikipedia entry on Sarvangasana contra-indicates it for many conditions including thyroid problems. A yoga book we read has the same opinion too.

However, many other resources, mainly from internet, suggest that Sarvangasana is good for thyroid function.

Also we are confused about its effects on hypo vs hyper thyroidism..

What's your take on this?

Thanks for your query. I claim not to be a yoga-guru. But below is what I learnt from Yoga gurus and books.

Sarvangasana contraindicates hyper-thyroidism.

And is good for hypo-thyroidism. I have seen good results of it on Hypo-thyroidism.

Regards
